King of the North
What creates the massive sound KOTN are known for? The “3 from 1 guitar” guitar pedal pioneered by KOTN singer/guitarist Andrew Higgs. It makes one guitar sound like 2 guitars and a bass so the 3 parts can be played live, separately or simultaneously, like a normal band. This creation landed Higgsy a listing in the 100th issue of Australian Guitar magazine’s “25 future legends of the guitar”. This pedal and it's sound has had an influence on many guitarists in Australia and made a formidable impact on the two-piece band format. As far as drummers go, Steve Tyssen has one of the best feels and grooves going around. Steve is the fresh face to the KOTN line up and an artist in his own right. His songwriting and vocal ability adds volumes to the depth of KOTN.
Playing over 500 shows in 5 years, KOTN have completed 4 headline tours of Australia and 1 of Europe. They have also toured with Clutch (USA), Monster Magnet (USA), Cold Chisel, Red Fang (USA), Shaka Ponk (FR), Shihad (NZ), The Mark Of Cain, Fu Manchu (USA), Kadavar (Ger), Truckfighters (Swe), Blues pills (Swe), Baby Animals, The Angels, Unida (USA), Dead Daisies, Reverend Horton Heat (USA) plus many more.
Music is a universal language that transcends cultures and borders, and it this resounding power and impact that the Hanlon Brothers embrace. Where most bands stay well within the boundaries of conventional music genres, the Hanlon Brothers love to push the limits of musical expression.
From their inception in 2012, the Hanlon Brothers have melded a wide variety of styles, cultures and genres into a signature sound that has quickly seen them carve a name for themselves on the touring scene, as well as gaining an extremely loyal and ever-growing fan base.
Emerging from the ground roots underground music scene of the Gold Coast, it was their daring and unique ‘improvisation nights’ that immediately set them apart.
When every performance is spontaneous and unrehearsed, and every beat and melody is constructed on the spot, it is hard to define the music that is created.
